
Yelena Schmitz (born 1996) is a Belgian writer. Her work has been awarded the Fintro Prize for Dutch Literature, Short Wave Radio Prize and the Deus Ex Machina Prize. Yelena often collaborates with illustrators, choreographers, visual artists, theater makers and other writers. Her book Geroezemoes was translated into Czech. In 2024, she published Hotel Kosmos, which was nominated for the Boon Literature Prize, a recognition of her ability to make big themes comprehensible and accessible to young readers. Yelena has published several books, theater texts and essays and writes columns for De Standaard. She is one of the young authors in the European talent development program CELA.
