
Yaiza Berrocal is the author of Curling (HyO editores, 2022; MTO Press, 2025), a novel that explores the relations between neoliberalism, identity, and representation through the voice of an opera theatre. She is also a playwright and screenwriter: she won the National Prize for Young Playwrights with her play The cold chain, and was the screenwriter of Black Butterflies, an animated feature premiered in at major cinema festivals worldwide, including Annecy, Sitges, IDFA, and Mar del Plata. A graduate in Literary Studies, she has worked as a bookseller, teacher, and opera usher. She currently teaches playwriting in the Universidad de Salamanca’s Master of Creative Writing programme and is working on her second novel, The Promises.
