Tijl Nuyts (Istanbul, 1993) is a Belgian author and poet based in Brussels. His work deals with societal concerns in ways that are both playful and committed. His debut novel Grondwerk [Groundwork] (2025) explores climate change, collective action and attempts to make the world habitable in poetic and sensory language. Grondwerk was shortlisted for the Boekenbon Literatuurprijs and very positively reviewed in the Belgian and Dutch press.
Before writing his debut novel, Tijl studied Spanish, English and comparative literature and wrote two poetry collections. His poetry debut Anagrammen van een blote keizer [Anagrams of a naked emperor] (2017) was nominated for the C. Buddingh' Prize and his second collection Vervoersbewijzen [Transports] (2021) was awarded the Herman de Coninck Prize and nominated for the shortlist of De Grote Poëzie Prijs. Tijl is part of the European poetry platform Versopolis and frequently performs his work on stage.
