Paulina Zając

Paulina Zając (1986) graduated from the University of Warsaw with degrees in Polish Philology, and West and South Slavic Studies. Her interest in translation studies began during her university years, culminating in a master's thesis on the translation of culturemes in the Czech version of Tadeusz Konwicki's novel Bohiń. She also won two student translation competitions organised by the Slavic Circle at Jagiellonian University and the University of Bielsko-Biała. For over 10 years, Paulina has worked as a translator of non-literary texts from Czech and Slovak, all the while maintaining a strong interest in literary translation. In both 2023 and 2024, she was awarded second place in the Susanna Roth Prize translation competition for emerging literary translators—for her translations of excerpts from the novels Směna by Anna Háblová and Rozložíš paměť by Marek Torčík.
