Maria Lupescu (b. 1977) studied Bulgarian, English and French at the University of Bucharest. Her interest in literary translation was piqued by her little daughter, to whom she started to read books. When they discovered a wonderful Bulgarian book about a cat, she translated it and realised it was a dream come true: finding beautiful and less known books and making them accessible to Romanian readers. She also translated some of Yana Borisova’s plays and expanded her interest in other literary genres.
