Maria Karpińska

Maria Karpińska (1988) is a writer and literary critic from Warsaw. She is the author of the highly acclaimed debut Żywopłoty (Hedges), published by W.A.B. in 2020, for which she received the Cyprian Norwid Award, as well as the novel Ucichło (It Quieted Down), published by W.A.B. in 2022. In 2020, she was honored with the Kraków UNESCO City of Literature Award.

Maria graduated from the Artes Liberales Faculty at the University of Warsaw, and participated in several literary workshops. She is the recipient of a scholarship from the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, as well as of the Italian Government Scholarship, which enabled her to conduct research at the Università di Pisa as a prelude to her doctoral dissertation on narrative identity.

In 2024, she undertook a literary residency at Goyki Art Inkubator in Sopot, where she worked on her third book.

As a literary critic, she writes about foreign prose for most of Poland's leading cultural magazines.
