Ishbel Szatrawska is a writer. She graduated in Polish literature and theater studies at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. She is the author of six theater plays and two novels. Her plays have been nominated for and have received awards from, among others, Berliner Festspiele and the international EURODRAM competition. Her novels have been nominated for and awarded the most important Polish literary prizes.
Her first novel, Depth, was published in German in 2025 and premiered at Konstanz Theater only two weeks after the book’s release. The novel also received enthusiastic reviews in Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Neue Zürcher Zeitung, and Die Presse, which listed it as one of the best books of 2025.
She has participated in international literature festivals, including BuchBasel, Zürich liest, and Conrad Festival, as well as in numerous authors’ meetings in Poland and abroad, including Berlin, Leipzig, Konstanz, and Bern. She has been a stipend holder of the Landis & Gyr Stiftung in Switzerland, the Stiftung Genshagen in Germany, the City of Krakow, and the Theater Institute in Warsaw.
