Ekaterina Petrova is a bilingual nonfiction writer and literary translator. Her collection of travel essays, Thingseeker: 44 (Un)Usual Objects from Near and Far was published in 2021. Her work has appeared in various Bulgarian and English-language publications, including Asymptote, Words Without Borders, European Literature Network, Reading in Translation, Balkan Travellers, and One Week in Sofia. She holds an MFA in Literary Translation from the University of Iowa, where she was awarded the Iowa Arts Fellowship. She has also spent time living, studying, and/or working in Kuwait, Minnesota, New York, Berlin, London, Paris, Kosovo, Serbia, North Macedonia, Northern Ireland, and the South of France. Currently based in her hometown of Sofia, she practises and occasionally teaches literary translation, writes a monthly column on fascinating etymologies for the Bulgarian independent media Toest, and is at work on a collection of essays and photographs, titled Here & Elsewhere, about travelling, translation, and belonging.
