Antonio Lleras (1979) is a writer and civil engineer born in Madrid. He studied civil engineering in the Technical University of Madrid, completed doctoral studies, and became a university professor teaching railway subjects at the European University.
Although he has worked as a civil engineer since 2005, his writing is rooted in his love of observing people, their problems and ideas, moving through the train stations where he works. After several of his short stories received awards in literary competitions, he decided to pursue his dream of studying writing and completed the Master of Narrative at the Escuela de Escritores from 2021 to 2023.
Brooklyn-Barakaldo is his first novel, published in May 2025 by Penguin Random House. The novel was written around a real event, a terrorist attack that took place in Madrid in 2000, and explores themes of second chances, redemption, partnership, love and guilt.
