Anneleen Van Offel (1991) is a writer whose work is based on research, travel, and encounters. In her latest novel, De stem van Sulina (2024), she takes a trip along the Danube, from source to mouth–a journey that for her becomes a mental journey into motherhood. Historical excavations and ancient myths and stories underpin her explicitly female approach to this journey along the river. It is a book about turmoil, maternal rage, van life, rivers, and the climate. For her debut, Hier is alles veilig (2020), she made four extended trips to Israel and Palestine, where she interviewed soldiers and their families, basing the novel on their stories. The book was warmly received by both the press and the public, and was published in German in the spring of 2023. She has published stories and poetry in various literary magazines and has written guest columns for newspapers De Morgen and De Standaard.
She often appears on stage–performing, hosting, or interviewing people. In the literary podcast De Zin van Mijn Leven, she talks about nothing less than the meaning of life. As a curator, she loves bringing people together in stimulating programmes, such as at Memento Woordfestival in Kortrijk and Het Betere Boek in Ghent.
