Anna Opara (1994) works as a translator of Dutch, English, and Polish. From human rights appeals to Young Adult fantasy novels, self-help books, and political essays, the translator’s job is to be engaged with the world. As such, Anna translates for several publishing houses in Poland, as well as for the global campaigning organisation Avaaz and the progressive Polish journal Krytyka Polityczna. Through her participation in CELA, she is finally fulfilling her lifelong dream of translating ambitious literary fiction. Her next step? Putting her own writing out there.

Anna graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Dutch and History of Art from University College London and a master’s degree in Literary Translation from the University of East Anglia. She also completed a postgraduate course in Translation Studies at the University of Gdańsk, and is a proud member of the Polish Literary Translators Association.
