Alma Mathijsen (1984) has written three novels, a novella, a collection of stories, and six plays. She also writes essays for Dutch newspaper NRC Handelsblad and columns for LINDA magazine. In 2011 she debuted with the striking novel Alles is Carmen, followed by De grote goede dingen (2014) and Vergeet de meisjes (2017), the latter reaching the shortlist of the BNG Bank Literary Prize. The 2019 novella Ik wil geen hond zijn is a daring story about a woman who decides she wants to transform into a dog, to be reunited with her ex-lover.
