From 23 to 28 November 2026, Nijmegen fills with outspoken stories. For six days, Wintertuinfestival brings literature, performance, art, music and unexpected encounters to the heart of the city.
Discover new and established voices from near and far, and experience stories that offer different perspectives on the world around us. At a time shaped by war, polarisation and shifting certainties, the festival uses literature to create space for voices and experiences that are not always heard, with a particular focus on Eastern European perspectives.
Through readings, conversations, performances and workshops, local, national and international stories meet. Literature makes tangible what can often remain abstract in the news, creating space for complexity, imagination and connection.
With Connie Palmen, Jaap Robben, Sheila Sitalsing, Annet Schaap, Lisa Weeda, Filip Grujić, Nadia de Vries, Temo Rekhviashvili, Marjolein Visser, Marta Hermanowicz, Leonieke Baerwaldt, Lieselot Mariën, Ishbel Szatrawska, Anna Bezpala and many more writers, translators and artists.
