Festival of World Literature – Fabula | Ljubljana and Celje, Slovenia
The Festival of World Literature – Fabula is the most prominent literary festival in Slovenia and one of the most significant in the region. Since 2003, it has hosted renowned international authors whose literature shapes the contemporary cultural space. The festival is based on a curated program that annually highlights five of the most outstanding literary creators and provides a platform for new voices through Fabula Hub. In 2025, Fabula introduces the central theme "Distorted Reality," which explores questions about our perception of the world and the role of literature in shaping our reality.
Fabula x CELA – Contemporary European Literature

Fabula 2025 is becoming an international partner of the European platform CELA (Connecting Emerging Literary Artists), which connects young European authors, translators, and literary professionals. As part of this collaboration, the festival hosts the event Fabula x CELA, presenting three emerging European authors and their translators to Slovenian readers.

- Filip Grujić (Serbia) and his translator Natalija Milovanović
- Ekaterina Petrova (Bulgaria) and her translator Maja Kovač
- Francesco Aloia (Italy) and his translator Zarja Lampret Prešeren
The authors will present their work, while the translators will discuss the process of transferring literary voices between languages. The discussion will be moderated by Aljoša Harlamov.
Fabula x CELA: Young Slovenian Translators

Translators are a crucial bridge between cultures. The Fabula x CELA event brings a roundtable discussion with young Slovenian translators who, in recent years, have translated works of European authors into Slovenian and vice versa. They will share their experiences, challenges, and the significance of translation in the contemporary literary space.

Fabula x CELA as a Literary Incubator
As part of the Fabula x CELA project, authors and translators will participate in several literary events across Slovenia, including appearances in bookstores such as Goga (Novo mesto), Libris (Koper), and Beletrina (Maribor).
