The CELA Platform is a new extension of the CELA Project (active since 2017) and connects emerging European writers and translators with a new generation of readers. The platform is currently being branded to act as a matchmaker, (sub-)agent and information hub for literary talent, organisations and publishers. Its growing network consists of 15 literary organisations from 13 European countries and is coordinated from the Netherlands by Wintertuin. Our ambition is to grow towards 20 members in the coming years.
The platform aims to generate tangible impact in the European market for translated literature. Participating organisations curate recent titles with translation potential. Following pitches by selected translators, a select group of titles will be chosen for a simultaneous international release around the Frankfurter Buchmesse 2028 (The Wave), supported by a substantial promotional budget and a reader app. Titles not selected for The Wave still receive support, including sample translations, pitch coaching and international exposure. This subselection is called The Current. In addition, a generous mobility programme enables authors and translators to participate in festivals, book fairs and bookshop events.
